Breed Description

Appearance

The Abyssinian cat is a muscular feline of medium size that grows to be about 8-10 lbs as an adult. The ticked coat is short and soft, with no tabby markings except for on the top of the head. Four colors are officially recognized for the Abyssinian and they are: ruddy, red, blue, and fawn. The cat is very similar to the Somali breed.

Personality

The Abyssinian is a cat full of energy and makes a great active companion. They love to play and are very social animals. They have a habit of getting into things, so you may want to consider this if they will be left alone most of the time.

Origin

The best theory is that the Abyssinian cat originated on the coast of the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia, and was spread by merchants that traveled along the Indian Ocean and specifically through Calcutta.
