Breed Description
Appearance
The Asian cat is elegant and exotic looking similar to the Burmese cat but with a wider range of colors and patterns including the Asian Self (including the Bombay, which is a black Asian Self), the Asian Tabby, the Asian Smoke and the Burmilla (which is a shaded Asian). Longhaired Asians of all varieties are called Tiffanies. Slender and muscular are two words that describe the Asian cat breed.
Personality
The Asian cat is said to be very intelligent with an outgoing and funloving personality. Interestingly, in the breed standard they mention that the Asian cat must be of even temperament.
Origin
The breed originated in Britain, with a litter of kittens bred in 1981 by Baroness Miranda von Kirchberg. The development of the breed is said to be an accident, but over time the Asian cat has been bred specifically to highlight the colors and patterns that are seen today.
