Breed Description
Appearance
The Bombay cat is known for its jet black coat and sharp copper colored eyes. They are medium in size and well balanced physically with a muscular physique. The coat of a Bombay should be short and satin like in texture and is always black.
Personality
Bombay cats are known to be very dependent on their owners and show a lot of love for an entire household as opposed to just one person. Bombay cats are generally good with children and they crave constant attention. They tend to be quiet in nature, enjoy playing with toys, and show great intelligence.
Origin
The Bombay cat breed was created in the late 1950's by a breeder in Kentucky by breeding a black American Shorthair cat with a champion Burmese. The result was a beautiful cat with a polished black coat and copper color eyes. The breed took a while to gain acceptance and it wasn't until 1970 that the CFA officially recognized Bombay cats.
