Breed Description

Appearance

The Burmese cat is a medium sized feline that is muscular and compact. Their eye color varies from yellow to gold. Burmese coats are fine with a satin like texture and very short. Generally coats come in blue, champagne, sable, and platinum colors.

Personality

Burmese are very playful and intelligent cats. They love attention from their owners and can be vocal at times, having a raspy voice that is unique to the breed. It is said that males and females have slightly different personalities. Male Burmese cats tend to be more laid back than their female counterparts who usually are very curious, more active and involved with their owners.

Origin

It is accepted that the Birman cat originated in the Buddhist temples of the country Burma (which is now Myanmar). There is a legend surrounding the development of the breed and how it got its colors. The Birman ended up in France later and became popular by the 1920’s as France accepted and wrote a standard for the breed.
