Friendly ?

Are Siamese cats friendly ? Are they safe to have around children ? I heard that if a child shows fear they go right up to them, is this to make the child feel at ease ?

When I was growing up, we had a neighbor lady who owned a Siamese cat, and he was very aggressive / violent. She'd come and show us deep scratches and bites he'd give her, and she used to say that it comes with the breed. So I grew up thinking that all Siamese cats are like that - until I met a guy who owned a female Siamese, and she was the sweetest, cuddliest thing. I guess it depends on the cat!
